Nice contrast pics vebyrd36. I have a tiny wanna be pond that is made out of a rubbermaid. I just keep small native fish in it and some plants.
Soon I am gonna build a proper pond but will probably keep native fish like maybe a Bass, a catfish, and many Sunfish.

We have two ponds both supplied with fresh water coming down off the mountain. One pond is about 10'X20'X2' and we are raising a Japanese trout called Masu. We have to watch out and put strings up because the local cranes and hawks love free meals. Summer time is really fun because the kids make their own fishing poles out of bamboo and fish for their dinner.
Our other pond is about the half the size of the trout pond and is in our frontyard. We have goldfish and koi swimming in there! Last week I took this picture of the girls cleaning the almost empty koi pond!
Unfortunately I don't know how many gallons these guys are and it varies due to snow melting and rainfall so they can fluctuate from half full to overflow! Thats the problem with a "nature provided" fresh water supply!
But I'm not complaining cause it free!!

I just took a shovel, dug a hole in theground, lined it with a used vinyl billboard face, anchored the edges wth some rocks and added some koi. butterfly koi, shubunkin goldfish, and some 'feeder' goldfish.

This is my home-made biofilter, made from a picklebarrel, and an ultraviolet sterilizer, which together keep the water aerated, and clear.
