What I like to do to make my garden chores more fun is to add a cook to the list of chores, especially on the fire-pit on a cold day.

Wicking bed fall prep

I posted this here because I feel that wicking beds fall more in the category of container gardening, since it is contained and fertilized like a container. In this episode of My Urban Garden, I clean out the wicking beds for a fall planting of Bok Choy, Romaine Lettuce and Spinach. The Jimmy Nardel...

July is when I was really impressed. I terminated the tomato plant on the right bed at the end of July because it was struggling with some fungus or something, however, I did get some production from it. I will be careful on what type of tomato plant to put in the bed next time and limit it to only ...

It has been a while since I have updated any garden notes. My advice to another gardener Plant cover crops. Don't worry about filling it, but for now, Try a mix with legumes and oats. Crimson clover and oats, let this grow all summer and early fall, it will die back after a hard frost or two. In the spring top with some compost/manure 4-6 weeks before plant...

There's quite a few ways to tackle this.
You could build a small fake well.
Put one of those wooden windmills over it
A half pot on its side with flowers.
Simple Post.
Post topped with an led light.

Re: Has anyone used a vertical growing system?

Only Homemade ones. When I built mine I put in 4" pipe with wicking material that had a few tiny holes, this went in the center of the towers, I eventually stuck a copper pipe in one with a few slits and a smaller diameter PVC in the other and hooked up to irrigation. They will dry out really quick ...

Re: A short video on my Grow Light observations

I'll be waiting to see how the plants produce, in the long run. Usually, I find that pepper plants that have started flowering in the pots have gotten rootbound, as yours seems to have, and sometimes they don't grow as quickly, once put outside, and some even never really recovered. This is why I s...

Try growing Big Bertha sweet green bell peppers, plants are about 5 ft tall and load up with about 40 BIG peppers about 4" diameter 6" long each. They have very good flavor. They should grow good in 5 gallon buckets with a tomato cage or stake to hold plants up. 5-20-20 is the best fertilizer. Too ...

I'm probably the wrong guy to ask about fertilizers. Look at your roots first. As far as lighting goes, shop lights or 6500k leds would work, thereare a million options for lighting and your 24 watts sound a little on the weak side. All I know is what has worked for me And roots need air, if you are...
