I found these in the yard today. Does anyone recognize these. Can they be eaten or poison? They are growing on a 5 year old dead oak tree.

I did research on mushrooms once I know you need to be an expert to know what is safe and not.

When I had a budding interest, I was told to contact the local mycological/mushroom Society....

Is this one anywhere near you?

If they're growing on a dead tree stump, they're probably just an inedible fungus if the stump is rotting inside. I wouldn't eat them, that's for sure.

It's dangerous to eat any mushroom you can't definitely identify. General appearance may not be enough. There are other ways of testing to confirm which one you've got; how to do that can probably be found online. But 'it's the internet', so beware!
