GRASSHOPPERS WRECK TOMATOES

Hullo folks,
I am so desperate--have lost chard, basil, and peas to these critters. Am trying to spray coffee on the tomatoes--but ended up picking stuff green rather than have hunks missing. Any tips? Have escorted my chickens to the raised beds, but no real dent in hopper population. Thanks for your help.

It seems to me netting/screen would be helpful. For leafy greens, small mesh would be fine; for fruiting crops, a mesh that is small enough to keep the 'hoppers out but large enough for the tiny sweat bees and wasps to get in?

Hi Applestar,
THANK YOU!! Will trot out and get some. I just want to taste these tomatoes I have nurtured for months--before they are decimated by hoppers!!!

The name Applestar evokes so many pictures. Would you be wlling to share how you picked it?

Hmm... I have my reasons, but I like this sense of mystery you've created. 8) Let's keep it alive, shall we? :flower:
