thin horizontal ring around middle of parodia leninghausii

A few weeks ago I received (from a nursery) a parodia leninghausii cactus with a faint horizontal indented ring around its middle, and over the past two weeks or so, that ring has become more pronounced. The spines around the ring are now turning from yellow to white, and minor skin lesions are beginning to show up, especially around the 'spine cuticle' bits. I've attached photos below.

I am hoping someone might be able to tell me what it is, if it needs treating (and if so how). My internet research leads me to think it might be etiolation, but I'm not entirely sure.

Other details:
* For the past two weeks the cactus sat inside next to a window and received 3-6 hours of direct sun a day. But I've now moved it outside into a more sunny spot (based on internet suggestions regarding etiolation).
* I watered it one time a few weeks ago after potting and plan not to water it again for a few months (it's going in to winter where I live).

Thanks

Ben
