wow... no I never talked to a cartographer or even thought about that as a job. But it does sound like a dream job for someone with the right skills and fitness level.
The one I always have in the back of my mind comes from when my sister and I went on a whitewater rafting trip. We had a guide with us on the raft. During the whitewater sections he was guiding, telling us where to put oars down, when. The rest of the time he was kicked back with his harmonica, playing and chatting with us, drifting through all the beautiful scenery. I wanted his job!
