New Discovery ~ Largest Coast Redwood Trunk

If anyone is a tree enthusiast, you may find some 2014 discoveries of interest. Largest known Coast Redwood trunk for volume, and at least two new diameter records.

I condensed the findings on the following page:

https://www.mdvaden.com/redwood_year_discovery.shtml

One tree shown, according to preliminary measure, has more volume in just the main bole alone, that the entire Nat Geo centerfold redwood of 2009 with all its 200 stems included.

38,299 cu. ft. not including reiterated stems on one new find.

Its refreshing to learn that there is more out there left to discover.

Ha! At first I looked at the picture and thought OK a big tree and a seedling/sapling.... Then I noticed the red something at the base of the big tree to the right.... Zoomed in and *it was a person*.

REALLY puts the scale in perspective.

Thanks for posting this :D

My wife is from Ferndale on the coast of California in the redwood area, when we go down there we spend some time walking among these magnificent trees. I would love to go see that one. The sad part is that there is only 5% of old growth left.
