Help! I have pear tree I need identified. Growing region 6 med to large fruit. White grainy flesh like Asian pear. Late season. Doesn't seem to ripen. It's almost October and they're still hanging on tree

sure sounds like a kieffer pear. it’s an asian-european hybrid. generally not considered a very good eating pear (just kinda sweet with not a lot of flavor, and good chances of excessive sand cells), but in places with lots of fireblight, one of the few options. the relative blandness means that the juice renders down into a nice syrup, if you’re willing to do the labor.

Thanks. That was the pear I was considering as it's flesh was similar to an Asian pear but I will try again to get them to ripen in a brown bag and see if they get a little sweeter. Very interesting because I am also fighting fire blight and pests with my Bartlett and D'Anjou trees , but not so much with this tree. But don't want to spray. I may have to try to find some uses like you mentioned for syrup or other things
