Plum tree buds dieing as they come out
A plum tree I purchased last winter that I recently put into the ground has started to bud the buds are turning brown and dieing almost as soon as they come out.. whats wrong with my tree?
Hi redruckus,
There are a couple of common causes for bud rot.
Brown rot spores left over from the autumn can be the cause....but that is more common if there are mummified fruit left on the tree. Not likely on such a young tree.
Root problems from over watering. Damage at transplanting etc.
Canker...either ordinary or bacterial. ( if it's the first then die back will be slight.....the latter, fatal),.
Either way...sprays of copper..eg. Bordeaux mixture ..pre- Blossom may help.
