I have a 5 year old plum tree. It a European plum, subtype "prune plum" and the variety is what is sometimes called here in Massachusetts, "Italian." Last year I got a huge crop of perfect plums. This year alot of fruits set but they became damaged by what I think is a Coddling Moth. The damaged plums
(about half of those on the tree) were oozing what I thing is "frass." This is an excretion form an insect larve. They got a premature purple color around the hole the frass was coming out of. Does anyone know anything about this?? Please go to the following link to see photos. They are photos 002-005. Thanks. https://www.putfile.com/fruitfarmer
Hi Grimaldi,
I have been researching this for quite a while now and have come up with some possibilities.
Plum curculio which feeds near the pit:

Oriental fruit moth:

Some interesting info:

I know it's a bit of reading and clicking around, but what do you think? I'm leaning towards the plum curculio.
