Yard is always soggy or flooding

Hi everyone, I was told that my neighbor has an underground spring on his vacant property. My back yard stays very wet most of the year and I get a fast rolling creek back there when it rains. If I plant some young willow trees will that help soak up all the dampness and water in the back yard? Any suggestions would be of great help.

Hi FireIce,

Trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants that grow in wet conditions don't soak up any water. They thrive in the conditions but won't dry out the land. If the water is from an underground spring you would need to find a way to redirect it. If the grade is the problem then you would need to regrade. I'd call my county office for help on this one.
